The Cairns region

The Quaid organisation services property and business opportunities in Tropical North Queensland, a region which extends from Cairns south to Cardwell, north to Cape York Peninsula and Thursday Island, and west beyond the Atherton Tablelands to the Gulf of Carpenteria.

The high rainfall costal strip which extends 150km north and south of Cairns features sugar cane and banana plantations, aquaculture farms, tropical fruit orchards, vast areas of national parks and World Heritage listed rainforest, the vibrant city of Cairns and tropical coastal towns and villages such as Port Douglas, Mossman, Innisfail, Mission Beach, Tully and Daintree/Cape Tribulation.

The tropical highland west of Cairns contain a rich agricultural lands ideal for dairy farms, market gardens, farms for exotic fruits and nuts such as avocadoes, mangoes and macadamia, and for leaf crops such as tea and tobacco. There is also a growing sugar cane industry

on the Tableland utilising irrigated farms with water from Tinaroo Dam. The major towns are Atherton and Mareeba.

Further west and north is beef cattle country, interspersed with mining towns such as Weipa (bauxite), fishing villages such as Karumba, Aboriginal communities such as Lockhart River and Bamaga as well as the historic town of Cooktown.

Green Island, Barrier Reef

The City of Cairns contains a broad range of residential, commercial and retail property. Cairns is a "clean" city and industrial properties cater mostly for service industries.

The prime tourist areas such as Cairns, Port Douglas and Mission Beach contain properties and businesses catering for tourists, eg: accommodation, food, entertainment and transport.

Residential properties with beach frontage or ocean views are highly sought after. So too are those in the foothills which benefit from cooling tropical breezes and mountain or coastal views.

Home unit (condominiums) and townhouses are popular

particularly in inner-city locations and resort areas such as Palm Cove, Trinity Beach and Port Douglas.

Around the fringes or urban areas rural-residential (small acreage) properties are popular for space, privacy and lifestyle benefits they offer.

There are even freehold rainforest acreages which provide unique tropical environments especially in the Daintree/Cape Tribulation, Mission Beach and Kuranda areas.

The coastal region around Cairns is relatively under-supplied with urban lands. With the rainforest-clad mountains standing up close the coastline, and significant areas designated for environmental and agricultural purposes, there will always be limits to development on the coast.

The Cairns region

Progressively, new areas for urban development are being identified in the tropical highlands west of Cairns and Port Douglas. As transport corridors are improved, greater urban expansion is likely to take place in these hinterland areas.
